Frequently Asked Questions
How much will my job cost?
Many factors impact the overall cost of tree work. The main ones being size and health of tree, proximity to hazards, tree access, and the selection of services. At Zippy TreeWorks we break down our quotes by the services offered. These can include things like tree trimming/removal, cleanup, disposal, stump grinding, and more. This allows you to decide which services you would like, and decline the ones you don’t to reduce overall job cost.
Continue reading below to get a better picture of the costs depending on the specific work being performed.
Tree Trimming
Prices range from $200-$1,600+. There are a variety of factors that impact tree trimming. Simply raising the canopy(removing the lowest branches) from a small-medium sized tree with no nearby obstructions typically falls at the low end of the cost range. A large tree requiring significant thinning, including large boughs that overhang a house or other property would fall closer to the high end of the cost range. If you are getting several trees trimmed at the same time, Zippy TreeWorks offers bulk discounts.
Tree Removal
Prices typically range from $500-3,000+. At the low end you have small-medium trees that are in the open, with little or no risk of damaging property or colliding with hazards. At the high end you have large trees overhanging, leaning towards, or in close proximity to property. These cannot be felled from the ground and often must have the limbs and trunk tied with ropes, cut into chunks, and lowered to the ground. This not only requires a skilled climber with specialized climbing, rigging, and safety equipment, but also a trained “groundie” to operate lowering devices and to retrieve items for the climber.
Stump Grinding
Prices range from $200-$800+. Stump removals are mainly based on the diameter of the stump. A flat fee is charged for each stump grinding job, regardless of size. After that, stump grinding is charged by the inch, with some additional costs added depending on the species and ground conditions. Usually stumps under 20” are $200-250 if combined with other services. Stumps larger than 48” can cost upwards of $800+ depending on species and ground conditions.
How deep do you grind stumps?
We grind stumps to a minimum depth of 6” below grade. Usually we aim for 8”, and if requested can grind up to a maximum of 12” if ground conditions and the terrain allow. We also grind up to 10” around the main body of the stump to remove the largest parts of the roots that offshoot from the stump.
Why does tree work cost “so much”?
Put simply, there is a cost associated with hiring an insured, trained, and well-equipped professional willing to risk their life for what is typically a luxury service.
Ever seen a YouTube video of some guy with a chainsaw taking matters into his own hands? If you haven’t, just know it usually doesn’t end well. Tree work is one of the top 3 most dangerous occupations in the US, and the fatality rate is 30 times higher than the all-industry average. Tree service companies also pay the 2nd highest liability insurance premiums of any industry. This is because the risk of damage to people or property is extremely high, and a single damage claim can increase premiums by 5-6 times for a period of 5 years.
Additionally, the equipment required to safely enter and perform work at height in a tree is expensive, and many pieces of gear must be retired and replaced at regular intervals. Heavy machinery, like bucket trucks and cranes, can drive the costs of service up dramatically, which is why tree services that operate without these tools are less expensive. However, climbing is more dangerous, technical, and fatiguing than any other method of performing tree work, and even the cheapest services charge significantly more than lawn mowing prices.
Do you offer discounts?
Yes! At Zippy TreeWorks we offer two types of discounts.
First, we offer $50 off per paying referral. Referrals are counted as customers you lead to us who sign an agreement to have us do tree work for them. Only once the referral signs a contract can the $50 be credited towards a current or future job you have with Zippy TreeWorks. You can “save up” these discounts for up to 6 months, and there is no cap. If you get enough your job could be free!
Second, we offer a 10% “Neighborhood Job” discount on the total job cost if you and a neighbor schedule work to be performed the same day. Neighbors are typically counted as anyone within 5 houses in either direction on your street. The 10% will apply to both of you!
Note: The discounts listed on this website may be altered or removed at any time. As long as they were listed at the time you signed a contract, we will honor them.
